West Bank women get first radio station
A new Arabic radio station, Nisaa 96 FM, is the first Palestinian channel devoted to social issues affecting both men and women, with a particular focus on women’s issues and how men can influence and be influenced by them.
As reported by Maktoob.com, Palestinian women’s affairs minister Rabiha Diab, who attended the launch, said the station would shed light on important social issues, including violence against women.
Broadcasts will include music and call-in discussions with experts.
This is really heartening to see that women’s issues are being addressed as men’s issues as well – equality and safety are societal issues that shouldn’t need to be gender-related, but unfortunately, we’re not at the point in time where that can be the case. Let’s hope that other organisations see this work and learn from it.
