That is the theme of the 2011 UNESCO Women Make the News programme. An annual programme, Women Make the News is designed to promote gender equality through the media and challenge media outlets to address inequalities in a number of ways – from content to access and management.
Running until 10 June, the consultation is described by the Coalition Government as a “chance to influence our proposals about government’s new approach for engaging and listening to women in the UK.”
Celebrated on 3 May 2011, this year’s theme is “21st Century Media: New Frontiers, New Barriers.”
The fifty-fifth UN Commission on the Status of Women met in New York earlier this year to discuss “Access and participation of women and girls in education, training, science and technology, including for the promotion of women’s equal access to full employment and decent work.”
